The Best Solo Date Ideas for Introverts
As an introvert, I sometimes hate the pressure of solo dating in a group environment where I’m expected to socialise with others. Take a cooking class, for example—you’re often paired with someone else, so if you’re hoping to enjoy some alone time without engaging with others, it’s probably not the best choice.
If you feel like this at times, these solo date ideas will let you explore different interests and enjoy your own company without any social pressures. They’ve left me feeling refreshed and fulfilled, and will hopefully do the same for you, too!
1. Attend an Online Sewing Workshop on Eventbrite
If you enjoy learning new skills in the peace of your own company, an online sewing workshop may just be perfect! I often discover new classes on Eventbrite by filtering my search results to online only. The workshops cater to all skill levels, and allow you to learn at your own pace without having to leave home… or talk to anyone! All you’ll often need is a basic sewing kit and fabric to get started.
2. Take a Solo Trip to the Cinema
Going to the cinema alone can be a surprisingly liberating experience, and is actually the first solo date I ever took myself on. I was nervous about people noticing me out alone, so I figured that sitting in a dark room where everyone’s focused on the screen ahead would let me go unnoticed—a perfect way to ease into solo dating.
Pick a film, grab your favourite snacks, and enjoy the show with no distractions. Choose a less busy screening time for an even quieter experience. This is perfect for us introverts who want to enjoy a story without the need for conversation afterward, or more specifically… throughout!
3. Use a DIY Kit to Create New Jewellery
There’s something so satisfying about creating your own jewellery, and with a DIY kit, you can design your own pieces from the comfort of home. Funnily enough, it was a lovely six-year-old girl who got me into jewellery making while I was babysitting. She asked me to bead a bracelet with her, and while we concentrated on our creation in silence, I found the process surprisingly therapeutic.
Now, I hope to dive into all types of jewellery making as a great way to spend some alone time. Whether you’d like to try beading, wire work, polymer clay or something else, purchase a DIY kit that fits the style you’re going for, and enjoy the creation process from the comfort of your home!
4. Take a Photography Walk in a New Area
I’ve lived in London my whole life, and yet there’s so many areas I haven’t explored properly yet. I’m sure you feel the about where you live, too? So, why not make a solo date out of a photography walk through an unfamiliar area? Take photos of anything that catches your eye—like interesting architecture, restaurants or shops you’d like to visit, or amazing background for your next content shoot. I love bringing my digital camera to make the outing feel even more like a special occasion, but a phone camera works just as well, especially if you turn off notifications.
If you’d like to take this solo date to the next level, you can print off all the pictures you took and add them to a scrapbook, with notes on each picture. Or, if you prefer to keep everything digital (like me,) you can create an online collage using a free design platform like Canva.
5. Follow an Online Painting Tutorial on YouTube
Many step-by-step painting tutorials are actually easier to follow than you might think, and YouTube is your best friend for finding free ones online. Just grab a canvas, some paintbrushes, and a palette, then set up your workspace with water for your brushes and a screen to watch your tutorial. Search “acrylic painting tutorial for beginners” on YouTube and scroll until you find an image you’d like to recreate. Finally, lose yourself in the process, pause whenever you need and go at your own pace.
6. Have a Solo Picnic
A picnic is a great way to enjoy a solo meal in the sun, especially if you’re not comfortable with dining alone at restaurants. You can enjoy a quality, home-made meal without the need to talk to restaurant staff or wonder whether everyone thinks you got stood up. It isn’t considered “unusual” to visit a park alone, so you’ll pretty much go unnoticed. Pack your favourite foods, find a quiet spot, and enjoy some alone time away from home. To keep yourself entertained, bring a book, journal, or supplies for another park-friendly activity that sparks your interest.
7. Enjoy a Solo Day at the Spa
You can’t go wrong with a solo trip to the spa. They’re designed to promote relaxation and mindfulness, so there’s an unspoken understanding that quiet is welcome — the perfect fit for us introverts wanting to recharge in a peaceful, solitary space.
If you book a spa treatment these are often done in silence so you won’t need to chat with the staff if you don’t want to. You can also look out for massage chairs and other services that don’t involve any human interaction at all!
My top 3 spas are actually all abroad, but offer an amazing experience and definitely all worth going back to for some quality alone time:
- Therme Bucharest in Bucharest, Romania.
- Go Place in Ontario, Canada.
- QC Termilano in Milan, Italy.
8. Hire a Bike for a Scenic Bike Ride
Personally, I don’t find most sports very therapeutic, as they often feel more like an intense workout. But I discovered the joy of biking on a trip to Majorca, where I rented a bike for two hours and spent the time exploring the island’s very cute scenery.
I rode, paused a few times to take pictures, treated myself to an ice cream, and continued riding. I chose a fairly easy route with barely any hills and was amazed at how much I enjoyed it. So, next time you’re exploring somewhere new (preferably in the sun), why not make a solo date out of it and explore by bike?
9. Go to the Library and Find a Peaceful Spot to Read
The library is another place where silence is welcome, making it perfect for some quiet time away from home. Browse the shelves for the perfect book, and find a cosy spot to settle in and read. I’m into personal development books, so I always bring a journal to jot down any life-changing advice that I can go back to in my own time.
10. Cook a 3-Course Meal for One
How often do you treat yourself to a three-course meal at home? Not often, right? So, a solo date where you cook a starter, main, and dessert will feel extra special as something you don’t usually do.
Find at least one new recipe to try (TikTok has some hidden gems!). Cook up, remembering to take pictures of your finished dishes for the memories. Set the table as you would for guests, maybe adding flowers, candles, and a glass of wine. Then, enjoy the ambiance and dig in!
