How to Transform Your Routine Netflix Binge into an Unforgettable Solo Date
Looking for a simple solo date idea? Why not transform one of your routine Netflix binges into the perfect solo date at home? This is my favourite thing to do when I have a completely free yard (a.k.a no distractions) and would like to keep on a budget. Here’s a few simple steps you can take:
Set the Atmosphere:
- Lighting: Dim the lights, or use fairy lights or candles for a cosy ambiance.
- Comfort: Gather your comfiest blankets and pillows to create a snug watching area.
Select the Perfect Content:
- Favourites: Pick films or a programme that you already know you love, or have been eager to watch for a long time. I love to re-binge old favourites that I know I found amazing, but can no longer remember the storyline to.
- Themes: Consider a theme night, such as a romantic comedy marathon or a thriller spree. List your line-up before hand so you can jump straight into the next movie as soon as the previous one finishes.
Prepare Special Drinks and Snacks:
- Luxury drink: Whether it’s alcoholic or not, pour it into a wine glass for the ultimate luxe feel. I always pick the wine glass with my name on it to remind myself that this moment is all about me!
- Exciting snacks: Prepare snacks that you’re actually excited to eat, like your go-to treats, or something you haven’t eaten in a very long time.
Dress Comfortably:
- Pyjamas: Wear your comfiest pyjamas for ultimate comfort. I like to make sure my pyjamas are cute too, as it just helps me feel my best.
Unplug and Focus:
- Device-Free: Turn off your phone or put it on silent to avoid any distractions. I like to leave it in a furthest room from the the room I’m watching TV in. This often means that even if I do feel like quickly checking my notifications, I’m too lazy to get up and treck to my phone.
- Mindfulness: Be present and enjoy the moment, focusing on the TV, snacks and your relaxation.
Interactive Elements:
- Journaling: Keep a journal nearby to jot down your thoughts or your favourite moments. My long-term memory of things I watch on TV is awful, so I started a journal where I rate each movie to TV programme I watch and give my detailed reasoning for each rating. This makes it so much easier to give Netflix recommendations to friends, and decide what I want to re-watch later down the line.
- Movie Bingo: Create a bingo card with common movie words or phrases to really enhance the fun. Make sure you treat yourself with perhaps a special snack or drink when you get Bingo!
Reflect and Relax:
- Post-Binge Reflection: Take a few minutes after your Netflix binge to reflect on the entire experience. What movies or episodes did you enjoy? How were your snacks? How often did you feel an urge to go on your phone? Did you enjoy your Netflix and Chill session more than average? What can you do to enjoy it more next time?
